ANNOUNCES FESTIVAL LINE-UP

Anniversary Edition Features Eclectic Mix of Films,
Emerging Writer-Directors, Themed Weekend Programming
And Added Celebrations

LOS ANGELES, CA – MARCH 1, 2006 – “La Doublure” (The Valet), Francis Veber’s affectionately funny portrayal of love and deceit, starring Daniel Auteuil and Kristen Scott-Thomas, will have its International Premiere at City of Lights, City of Angels Film Festival on Monday, April 3, 2006, five days after its Paris premiere. The festival’s closing night World Premiere will be Eric Tolédano & Olivier Nakache’s “Ces Jours Heureux” (Those Happy Days). Both evening films will feature a Q&A with the writer-directors. Danièle Thompson’s Fauteuils d’Orchestre has been scheduled as an additional, special anniversary film.
The 10th Anniversary issue of the festival will feature a world premiere, two international premieres, five North American premieres, one U.S. premiere, four west coast premieres and five Los Angeles premieres by such popular writer-directors as Maurice Barthélémy, Gérard Pirès Stephane Brizé, and Danièle Thompson, who are among the filmmakers scheduled to attend the festival as part of the French delegation.

“In celebrating a decade of the best of French cinema for our Los Angeles audiences, the Franco-American Cultural Fund has established COL•COA as an important industry affair, an increasing public success and a delightful discovery for novice French film-goers,” stated festival director Claudia Durgnat. “With 18 feature films and 18 shorts, COL•COA is now the largest North American event dedicated to French cinema and the second largest in the world,” added festival programmer François Truffart.
City of Lights, City of Angels Film Festival is funded by the Franco-American Cultural Fund, a unique collaboration of the Directors Guild of America (DGA); SACEM, France’s Society of Authors, Composers and Publishers of Music; Writers Guild of America, west (WGA west); the Motion Picture Association (MPA) and with the vital support of L’ARP, France’s Association of Directors and Producers; The French Embassy in the United States – The Film and Television Office in Los Angeles and Unifrance.

Back by popular demand will be the specially-themed Friday evening showcase (film noir), Sunday’s Audience Choice Award film shown earlier in the Festival, as well as “A Short Afternoon,” the compilation screening of all 18 shorts, both free to the public, and served with a COL•COA birthday cake. The featured documentary film will be “My Dad is Into Terrorism” (La Fille du Juge), William Karel’s moving testimony by a judge’s daughter whose life is essentially stolen. The film will be screened in the established Thursday early evening program.

City of Lights fest to shine

Program will include 18 features, 18 shorts

Works by d.p.-turned director Yves Angelo, Brigitte Rouan and Bertrand Blier will be featured in the 10th annual City of Light, City of Angels Film Festival, running April 3-9 at the Directors Guild of America in West Hollywood.

The program's 18 features and 18 shorts, announced at the Beverly Hills residence of Consul General Philippe Larrieu, represents 10% of France's annual production and constitutes the largest North American event dedicated to Gallic cinema, according to fest director Claudia Durgnat.

French stars Daniel Auteuil, Catherine Deneuve, Gerard Depardieu, Carole Bouquet, Isabelle Huppert and Phillipe Noiret, as well as the U.K.'s Kristen Scott Thomas and Charlotte Rampling and Italy's Monica Bellucci are featured among the entries.

The international premiere of Francis Veber's "La Doublure" (The Valet), starring Auteuil and Scott Thomas, will kick off the fest on April 3, five days after the pic's Paris bow. Closer will be the world premiere of Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache's "Ces jours heureux" (Those Happy Days). Event also boasts five North American premieres, one U.S. preem, four West Coast premieres and five L.A. preem.

As in past COL/COA events, L.A. auds will be exposed to films by acclaimed French filmmakers that otherwise have not, and likely will not, receive U.S. distribution.

As befits the fest's 10-year anniversary, there will be both opening- and closing-night ceremonies, with a VIP lounge introduced this year. Filmmakers Blier, Veber, Maurice Barthelemy, Stephanie Brize and Daniele Thompson are expected to participate in Q&As following the screening of their films.
