After several award-winning collaborations with filmmaker Benoît Jacquot ("Sade," "Right Now," "The Untouchable"), arthouse favorite Isild Le Besco returns with another sexually-charged performance in DEEP IN THE WOODS. Based on a real-life 19th century trial, the film recounts the abduction of Joséphine (Le Besco), the daughter of a respectable country doctor. Deeply religious and mentally unstable, Joséphine succumbs to a bewitching vagabond named Timothée, played by Argentine actor Nahuel Perez Biscayart ("Tatuado," "Glue"). Attracted to the virginal Joséphine and sensing her fragile mental state, Timothée hypnotizes her. Seemingly under his spell, she follows him into the forest. As they go deeper in the woods, their relationship becomes more intense and develops into an ambiguous love affair, until the authorities finally catch up with them.

BENOÎT JACQUOT began his film career as assistant director to Marguerite Duras on NATHALIE GRANGER (1972) and INDIA SONG (1975). He wrote and directed his first feature in 1976, THE MUSICIAN KILLER, based on a Dostoevsky novel. He became well-known with A SINGLE GIRL (1995), starring Virginie Ledoyen, and THE DISENCHANTED (1990), introducing actress Judith Godrèche (LOW COST [COLCOA 2011]). He then reached a wider audience with SEVENTH HEAVEN (1997), co-written by Jerôme Beaujour, followed by THE SCHOOL OF FLESH (1998), SADE (2000) and more recently, THE UNTOUCHABLE (2006). He has written and directed plays, documentaries, television fiction and operas. He is currently directing FAREWELL, MY QUEEN (2011), a film about Marie-Antoinette starring Léa Seydoux and Diane Kruger, based on a novel by Chantal Thomas.

PRESS
"Especially intriguing is the way Jacquot ambiguously frames seduction as a kind of mental sleight of hand - a performance (and an apparently nefarious one) intended to override free will. By capturing the shifting dynamics between the captor and captive, Jacquot poses a fascinating paradigm in defining the ephemeral nature of desire."
STRICTLY FILM SCHOOL

"Set in the handsome countryside of southern France in 1865, the opening film at the Locarno International Film Festival is filled with lovely scenery and has many sequences showing the voluptuous Isild Le Besco nude in the throes of extreme passion."
